Description
After a killing frost I still have some blues in my garden, called Bachelor Buttons or Cornflowers. It is an annual flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, native to Europe. In the past it often grew as a weed in cornfields (in the broad sense of "corn", referring to grains, such as wheat, barley, rye, or oats), hence its name. It has been said that men used to wear them in their lapels to see if the color stayed and they would know the women they were with might be the right one. Funny how names come to be!
